Type in an abbreviation, something like “.FindMysoft” and Breevy will perform the action associated with that abbreviation. It will expand the abbreviation, it will launch a program/file/folder, or it will open a website. You get to choose the abbreviations and you get to pick what happens when these abbreviations are typed in.

Should you decide to give Breevy a try, the first thing you must do is download a 4.7MB executable onto your machine. Run this executable and you will be presented with a setup wizard that will take you through the installation process. A few clicks later you will be done with the whole thing and you’ll be able to start using Breevy.

There are two panes on the application's interface. The pane to the left presents a list of folders – when you get started with the application, you will see an Examples folders. The pane to the right presents all the abbreviations inside a selected folder. When you select an abbreviation, a third pane shows up and presents more info on that abbreviation. At the top there’s a traditional File menu and shortcuts for easily accessing Breevy’s functionality: create new abbreviation, new launcher, access the Preferences menu, and so on.

As mentioned above, Breevy works as a text expander. You can set it so that when you type in “.FindMySoft”, Breevy expands it to something like “This is a test performed by George Norman for FindMySoft.” You can easily create new abbreviations, you can efficiently manage all your abbreviations, and you can choose how Breevy expands them: immediately after you type the abbreviation, after the trigger key is pressed, or after a word-ending character is typed.

Also as mentioned above, Breevy works as an application launcher. Instead of expanding text, when you type in an abbreviation, the application can launch a file/folder or program or it can open a website.

Breevy is not free, it is free to try. You have 30 days at your disposal to evaluate the functionality this application has to offer and decide if you want to get a license.

Type in a few letters and Breevy will expand them to anything you want. Or type in an abbreviation and Breevy will launch a program/file/website.

Pros

Getting Breevy up and running takes little time and effort. Breevy runs in the background and monitors the keyboard; when you type in an abbreviation, it performs an assigned action. You can set it so Breevy will expand text or launch files/programs/websites. Breevy has a user friendly interface and it is quite easy to use. With Dropbox sync, you can use the same abbreviations on multiple computers.

Cons

Free to use for a trial period of 30 days; nag screen.
